Meet the Founder | Mya Carroll
Mya Carroll is the Founder and Principal of RM Carroll Realty & Development Group, a Houston-based public-private development and community advisory firm. With over 20 years of leadership experience spanning real estate development, organizational strategy, and community planning, Mya provides strategic guidance to public agencies, nonprofit institutions, and development partners working to advance equitable and sustainable growth.
Mya currently serves as Chair of the South Post Oak Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 9), where she plays a key role in overseeing redevelopment initiatives, affordable housing investments, infrastructure improvements, and economic development strategies impacting communities across Houston. Her leadership in this role reflects deep experience navigating public-sector processes, stakeholder engagement, and long-term redevelopment planning.
Mya is pursuing a Master’s degree in Community Development Planning at Prairie View A&M University, further strengthening her expertise in planning policy, land use, and community-based development. This academic foundation complements her professional work at the intersection of planning, development, and implementation.
Her career began in the corporate sector, where she held leadership roles within multiple Fortune 500 companies. In these positions, she led organizational development initiatives, performance improvement efforts, and executive training programs—experience that now informs her approach to institutional strategy, program implementation, and development advisory services.
Mya holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with minors in Women’s Studies and Behavioral Analysis, from the University of Houston–Clear Lake. Her academic background informs a people-centered approach to development that balances data, governance, and community insight.
In addition to her professional work, Mya is the Founder of Phoenix Women’s Outreach, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on supporting individuals affected by trauma. She has also served in leadership roles with community coalitions and currently sits on multiple boards, reinforcing her long-standing commitment to civic service.
Mya’s leadership and impact have been recognized throughout her career. In 2015, she received a Proclamation from former Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker, declaring April 17th as “Mya Carroll Day.” In 2019, she was honored by the Houston Business Journal as one of the city’s “Women Who Mean Business.”
These recognitions reflect her belief that effective leadership is grounded in service, accountability, and long-term community benefit.
Mya’s professional philosophy is simple and enduring:
“It takes a community to build a community.”
Through RM Carroll Realty & Development Group Consulting, she continues to advise on development initiatives, community planning efforts, and institutional strategies that create lasting value for families, businesses, and neighborhoods.
